Live music is a large part of many an apartment-ite's weekly routine, and for those residing in the St. Louis area the place to be is definitely the Hi-Pointe Landmark Theatre. From rock to punk, hip-hop to rockabilly, funk to alt-country, this duplex-spanning venue-dive has become a popular favorite among the college crowd and old timers alike.

Unlike some snobbier joints, the Landmark Theatre is proud of its dive bar

tag; true to its punk rock roots, the ambiance is thus fittingly down and dirty - expect graffiti-tagged walls, vintage show posters, smoke-filled rooms and stickers, stickers everywhere. The main hall upstairs boasts a lengthy bar and a beaten-but-sturdy stage, which has hosted such luminaries as New Bomb Turks and The Supersuckers, while the lower level houses a series of well-worn poll tables and comfy booths. The sound system is fittingly loud, perfectly tailored to a joint that caters to bands intent on rocking with amps set to 11, and the sarcastic-yet-friendly bar staff perfectly compliment the venue's laid back and rebellious attitude, just be sure to tip on each round or risk suffering the wrath of your new favorite tavern wench.

As any St. Louis-area apartment-ite will tell you, a main selling point of any bar is the price and quality of its libations. The Hi-Pointe Landmark Theatre, fortunately, offers the best part of both. Where else can your party find not only $4 pitchers of ale but also $1 Jager shots? And while the usual selection of domestic cheap-o brands are in effect for the trucker-hat-clad youngsters (PBR, MGD), the Landmark also collects a surprising array of imported draft beer such as Bass, Harp and Guinness. Be sure and get there early though, since St. Louis-area bars like the Hi-Pointe are required to give last call at 2 a.m., but hey, you should probably be getting home to your apartment by that point anyway, right?
